SUNDAYS AT MONGKOK

It was a lazy Sunday and we were all just craving to do NOTHING that day.

Of course, we had to eat. Now where should we go after cleansing our soul in Sunday mass?

Why not have some of our favorite comfort food????

With that, we all thought of going to MONGKOK, a surefire favorite in Powerplant Mall that always hit the spot when we're lazy and hungry at the same time.

Lazy because we don't want to think what we want anymore. Everything there is just good!!! He he he he he he he!

And as expected everyone agreed. You really can't go wrong with greasy Chinese food even if it IS a Sunday. He he he he he!

WANG JIA TEA HOUSE

ERICJAZ FOODIES went out Saturday morning for an early getogether with THE KAIN TULOG GANG in Ortigas Center. We already went home about 1:00AM from a gimik that Friday but when our KTG beckons, we follow.

It's very likely anyway that delicious and hot food is waiting for us at the end of the "rainbow." He he he he he he he!

The venue for that morning was in WANG JIA TEA HOUSE, a simple and unpretentious restaurant located inside CW Home Depot Compound. When we got to the venue, the Yub and I knew that this would already be our kind of place especially when we're craving for affordable comfort food.

And knowing that they serve Yub's usual favorite (e.g. dimsum, noodles, rice toppings, kikiam, etc) just made him feel like he hit the jackpot.

WOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!

MOMMY'S BLUE POSTS BOILING CRAB AND SHRIMPS BIRTHDAY

When my Mom had her birthday, we delayed her celebration because she wanted to wait for my Daddy's sisters when they arrive from Las Vegas. On the day of their flight, we booked a table at one of our current favorites for my aunts to try....

BLUE POSTS BOILING CRAB AND SHRIMPS!

Syempre because when you love something, you also share it with the people you love.

LE CHING WITH MY FAVORITE COUSINS!

My favorite cousins from Las Vegas are here for a vacation. And besides sight seeing, church-going, and shopping, they are also SO raring to do some serious.... FOOD TRIPPING!

Yup! And that's why we get along soooo well! He he he he he he he!

When I say FOOD-TRIPPING, I don't mean going to some posh and swanky restaurant having expensive foie gras or caviar. They have a LOT of that already in Las Vegas!

What my cousins are looking for is the comfort food from hole in the wall restaurants that they cannot find in the US. Places where they went to while they were still in Manila. Eateries which would get them strolling down memory lane with their unforgettable dishes.

And with that, I thought of treating them everyone's favorite -- LE CHING!!!!!!

LE CHING has been in Greenhills Shopping Center for many, many years now!

The set up is like what you find in old Chinese eateries in Binondo!

Yup! Just our type of restaurant!!!!!

APPLEBEE'S (EASTWOOD)

APPLEBEE'S recently opened its 2nd Philippine branch in Eastwood, Quezon City, and the foodies in the area can't be happier. FINALLY, they have one of America's favorite restaurants that serves hearty salads, pastas, steaks, and most especially, their signature dish, the riblets, closer at this side of the Metro.

As for me and the Chinese Dimpol, even if we live in the area of "Upside Down" (tee hee), we don't mind going the distance to get a taste of the food from the restaurant that we have been hearing AND seeing for many years. Yup! We have tried (BLANK) and (BLANK) restaurants but we could never get away from the familiarity and presence of APPLEBEES from the shows/movies we watch or from the drool worthy advertisements in cable TV. So yes, we're REALLY going. And to learn that an APPLEBEE'S branch is so near the place I work in is like cherry on top of a huuuuge sundae for me --- suhweet!

So for those who think that BGC is like the edge of the world, REJOICE! We now have APPLEBEE's in Eastwood, Quezon City to keep you company when you're needing to have platters of your favorite American comfort food.

And you don't really need to follow confusing red and green colored lights to get to it. Just look for their big and white apple and you are SO good to go!

APPLEBEE'S! WOHOOO!

The big apple is now in Eastwood!

WON TON (GREENHILLS)

I think I have mentioned many times in the past how THE YAPPY BUNCH loves eating Chinese food.

Okay! Okay! We LOVE many kinds of food but CHINESE cuisine is definitely in the top ranks.

That is why every now and then (uy parang kanta!) we would answer the call for a Chinese food craving. It doesn't matter if our usual favorite is available at that time: if we're hungry for Chinese, we just HAVE to have it. Pronto.

On one particular night, THE YAPPY BUNCH went to Greenhills shopping center because we were definitely yearning for some dimsum and noodles from our favorite LE CHING. However, much to our hysterical disappointment (if you've tried the Spare Rib rice from LE CHING, you'll know why we felt so), the restaurant ran out of Spare Rib rice. So we were left alone, cold, and hungwy.

(Cue in the most sorrowful music you could think of.)

In Greenhills, there were a lot of restaurants which we claim to be our favorites like KIMPURA, SUN MOON GARDEN, HOUSE OF MINIS, etc. etc. But we were inconsolable. Even if we would drop everything and go to these places on other days, we have already programmed ourselves to savor the greasiness and delicious flavors of what we regularly had in LE CHING.

And so we came upon WON TON!

Did it satisfy our LE CHING craving? Check out and see!

WON TON!

WON TON is in the same building and was almost across LE CHING.

We came upon WON TON after going to LE CHING TOO (the second branch of the restaurant within Shoppesville) and finding out again that they ran out of Spare Rib Rice. While we were walking in defeat, we saw our Chinese restaurant savior!

DEAR SPANKY'S BIRTHDAY ( A KTG SURPRISE!)

One of the highlights in the "life" of ERICJAZ FOODIES is being part of the KTG (Kain Tulog Gang) because finally, we met people who love food as much as we do and would also document it any way they can.

"Before somebody reacts, of course, my family and friends still top my list but I cannot tell you how many times I got the "Enough already!" when I take pictures of them! Pero naman when they see themselves in the blog, kilig na kilig! Che! Ha ha ha ha!"

Anyway, the person responsible for forming this "Foodie Family" is Mr. Spanky Enriquez... The Chairman... Our Pitboss...  THE Bossman!

So pogi!

Now many times I'm sure you saw me refer to him as "Dear Spanky". Hold on to your knickers, I'm not about to replace the Chinese Adonis.... yet (Bwa ha ha ah ah!). But at the start (and he doesn't know this), I did so to show respect to a person I regarded so high in social media (I was scared of him honestly at first!!!) that instead of referring to him as SIR Spanky (which he detested, violently!), I tweaked it up a bit and regularly called him DEAR (it's pretty close actually, especially if you have a hard tongue... he he he he he!). So from them on it was Dear Spanky this... Dear Spanky that. If you see my thought bubble, you would THINK I was also doing the "We're not worthy"action. NAKS! But of course, as time went on, I mentally dropped the DEAR as a stand-in for SIR and it really became what it stood for... calling somebody who is very DEAR to us.

I discovered that dear Spanky is REALLY a very cool guy and nothing to be scared about! He is actually the only person who believed in my blog (yes, the Chinese Adonis is NOT included) and would make me feel good about it at times when I doubted its silliness.

And believe me, with the way he is taking care of us in KTG, he deserves all the love that he is getting right now. I'm sure the others will agree that we owe him a lot. With that, it's no wonder why his group of hungry and lazy bloggers came together to surprise him on his special day. It was really the least that we could do to honor our King of the "Rawr" and our GODFATHER.

Dear Sir SPANKY! We love you to the farthest of Milky Way and back. Maybe that's why you'll always be somebody from another galaxy in our eyes!

BOON TONG KEE (PART DEUX)

It was a lucky Tuesday night for me and the Chinese Adonis because not only was I able to get out of work early ("FREEDOM!!! FREEDOM!!!!) but we received an invite to taste the new dishes from BOON TONG KEE in Quezon City! Ever since our first meal in the famous Singaporean franchise with the KTG (SEE HERE), my husband and I would frequently pig out on our favorite Hainanese Chicken and Ribs in their Powerplant Mall branch.

We already love everything the way it is... but now we get news that there would be MORE of us to love?

A lucky Tuesday night for us indeedy!

BOON TONG KEE!!!

photo from Boon Tong Kee FB account :)
Beside the new dishes in BOON TONG KEE, the restaurant was also celebrating the visit of the man who started it all from his simple stall from 1979! Mr. THIAN BOON HUA!!! It has already been 35  years since he introduced hungry diners to his very moist but deliciously seasoned steamed chicken and now his genius is filling up our tummies with more delicious Singaporean food!

I was not able to get a picture with Mr. Hua but I was able to meet him and shake his hand. The guy was truly humble but you could see that his passion for giving us the perfect Hainanese Chicken still burns as it did 35 years ago.

BOON TONG KEE in Tomas Morato, Quezon City was as cozy as I remembered it to be. It is actually more spacious and chic than the Powerplant Mall branch. If my mental institution in Mandaluyong (tee hee) was nearer here, the Yub and I would indulge in our Singaporean favorites in this BOON TONG KEE branch!
