Yes, we always have our usual special lunches...

Yes, we always go around afterwards then have coffee in our favorite SEATTLES' BEST....

TRUFFLE GREATNESS FROM UMBRIA TERRA DI TARTUFI!!

It's the Christmas season!!!! One thing's for sure, we're wracking up our brains what to cook for our Noche Buena or holiday meals!!!!

Of course, my household is no exception.

My brother and I were usually in charge of cooking our Noche Buena so as early as the start of December, I'm already listing down our menu. We have our usual favorites (stuffed chicken, steak, mashed potatoes, leche flan, etc... etc) but we're always on the look-out to add something new to make our night more exciting for our tummy.

What should I cook then?

I was thinking of something classic, delicious, that would still impress our diners. Of course, preparation and cooking time should be considered since we're serving a lot on that day. Good thing a package arrived that day and it instantly gave me an idea what to cook!

TRUFFLE CREAM PASTA!!!!

Umbria Terra Di Tartufi, distributed by Dygen Food Ventures, Inc., has a variety of high-quality products that are used in restaurants for that authentic taste. I was able to receive their Truffle Oil and Sauce, and it got me excited to cook up my boys' favorites.

Of course, learning that I COULD make a platter of Truffle Cream Pasta made them plead for me to cook it ASAP and not wait for Noche Buena. So, like any hungry Mommy would do (who also understood the craving), I instantly made it!

And woah! We were all happy that I did!

ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT DIMSUM PLUS MORE IN NEW WORLD HOTEL MAKATI

One Saturday, we were invited to try out the new EAT-ALL-YOU-CAN offering JASMINE restaurant in NEW WORLD HOTEL MAKATI.

Wow! NEW WORLD HOTEL!!! This Makati classic has been part of our many HOTEL HOPPING gimiks during the Christmas season where we would always hang out in the bar listening to music. This time, not only will we be eating in their popular restaurant, but we will also be feasting on dimsum! One of our favorites!!!

So the Yub and I excitedly drove over to NEW WORLD HOTEL all hungry and delirious because we haven't eaten breakfast. We promised each other that even though we were starving, we will control our appetites because we will only permit our tummies to be ravaged during the Christmas and New Year feasts.

What happened? Let's just say that as usual, vows were broken and we completely "yolo-ed" our diets.  Still, there were no regrets -- we did eat all and savored all that we can!

So 2020 may be ending at what may be the most different year for all of us. That's why I'm happy that there are restaurants such as JASMINE of NEW WORLD HOTEL that now offer their exceptional dishes at special prices to go along with our new "situation." In this way, even if the overall experience may be different from what we were all used to, the taste and meal itself will be the manifestation that life is still GOOD!

Yohooo!

We're in NEW WORLD HOTEL MAKATI!

CRAVING FOR RAMEN NAGI AGAIN

Once again THE YAPPY BUNCH needed to go to St. Lukes in BGC so we left early morning. After the follow-up checkup, the boys got hungry so we decided to have lunch nearby. It was bad after all for them na "malipasan ng gutom."

So where to eat?

The last time Mati, the Yub, and I were in BGC, we ate in RAMEN NAGI because this Japanese specialty just doesn't work well for delivery -- it really should be eaten at the restaurant. When we told Andrei about our lunch, he got so inggit that we promised him the next time we're out, we'll eat at RAMEN NAGI.

So then it is THAT day.

Dan... dan... DANNNNNNNNNN!!!!

We were initially worried that security won't allow little Andrei in the mall (where RAMEN NAGI was located). Fortunately, management let the bunso in as long as we follow safety measures. We noticed too that around BGC there were many kids and even babies going around with their families. I guess since the place is like one big open park, it is safer for people to go around. Yep. We were meant to go out today.

So yay! Cravings answered for little Andrei and for us too!!!!! It was another great day for THE YAPPY BUNCH!

TONG YANG EXPRESS AGAIN

The Yub and I enjoyed our last dinner in our new favorite TONG YANG EXPRESS that we excitedly told our big guy that the next time we go out, it's going to be for lunch there. True enough even if we didn't really need to do groceries we set our minds that we needed to just so that we could have our much craved for hot pot experience.

Suddenly however, a little bunso heard us talking.

Andrei: I WANNA JOIN TOO!!!!

Of course, he's not allowed to go out but my heart just breaks at the thought that we'll be having fun while he's doing the same old thing at home.

To that, he remembered that his buddy Jelo invited him to their house to play.

So calls were made and we're all set. Andrei will have a play day with Jelo while Yub, Mati, and I will have lunch in TONG YANG!!

Don't you just love it when the food gods work everything out just so that you'd get your craving????

Yehessss!!!

We're at TONG YANG!!!!!

OUR NEW ITALIANNI'S BGC EXPERIENCE

Saturday is fast becoming our BGC day because it's somewhere we could all go to have a change in scenery, enjoy food-trippings, and have some good ol' family quality time.

That day though we were on a mission to eat at ITALIANNI'S. We read that Citibank had a promo where the total bill is cut down to 50%. You know naman us, always on a budget so we couldn't (and wouldn't) let a deal this good pass us by.

Plus, we love Italian food so this is PERFEK!!!!!

MANN HANN (ROBINSON'S GALLERIA)

One weekend, the Yub, Mati, and I went to Robinson's Galleria to buy my Mom's birthday gift that was (unfortunately) not available in the malls near us. We went there extra early and that was a good move because not a lot of shoppers were there.

Come eating time, where to? We let Mati choose first (because he's been very patient while I was going around and checking the plates I got for Mommy). He asked for Samgyupsalamat but when we got there, sushmaryosep, punong puno!

Secretly I was craving for Ramen Nagi but since we've been there for 2 weekends already, I just kept quiet. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

With that we just decided to go around and choose the restaurant that only had a few diners.

And so we came to MANN HANN!

Naku the Yub was overjoyed at favorite restaurant niya to.

It was then Mati and I realized that he was with us and forgot to include him in the decision-making. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Oh well, everything worked in his favor naman. Tee hee.

OUR NEW GENKI SUSHI EXPERIENCE

One weekend, the boys needed to go to St. Lukes hospital for a consultation. After their much needed check-up, the guys got hungry and asked for some lunch PRONTO.

We thought... hmmmm... where should we eat in BGC that we cannot have for delivery (since it might be a long while before we go out again)?

The bunsoy Andrei suggested GENKI SUSHI. It was after all one of their favorite restaurants and Japanese food was not the same if it was not dine-in.

So to GENKIE SUSHI we go. We also realized that since the bunsoy NEVER goes out. His wish is our command this time.

And we're (sorta) glad that we did!!!

Find out why!!!!!

OUR NEW RAMEN NAGI EXPERIENCE

One morning, the Yub and I had this deep craving for ramen that we mustered up all our courage to go out. Though we understand and follow all rules with regards to the quarantine, we felt that this is the time to go out. We're just going to be extra careful and since some venues allowed in-store dining, we're going.

With our big guy Mati!

OUR MEMORABLE TAKE-OUTS DURING LOCKDOWN

With the current pandemic that's going on, let me ask you this:

How did you cope?

Of course others would give the noblest of answers by answering "with prayer", or "with my family" or "by sharing our blessings." As for me, I'm sure you know that besides that, my quick (and very trivial) answer would be:

WITH FOOD!!!!!!!!!!

You guys all know that my family's love language is FOOD. When there is a special event, "LET'S EAT TO CELEBRATE!" is our usual battlecry. The place doesn't have be fine-dining or expensive. As long as the food is delicious and we were able to create wonderful memories with it, we'll go back to the place again and again.

So during this pandemic, since we're not able to go out and do our usual gimiks, we would just order food for delivery. And woah, I hope you don't mind me saying this but FOOD REALLY SAVED US.

My family and I love going out! As in, date night, family night, movie night, celebration night, etc etc, not to mention the getaways. So to be confined suddenly in one place seemed so nerve racking for us. We then resorted to just ordering food for delivery (even if my Mom cooks regularly at home) to have that feel of "going out." Alas, many stores were closed and it was hard to get a rider to accept our delivery services. I swear when somebody receive our orders I couldn't help but gush my thanks to the rider. Kulang na nga lang e yakapin ko. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Sharing with your the restaurants that "saved us" during the quarantine period. I would also like to give my utmost appreciation and salute to the delivery guys who answered our needs during that hungry time!!!!!!

THANK YOU! OH THANK YOUUU!

OUR FIRST DATE POST ECQ

Ever since the pandemic started, my family and I dutifully stayed at home. Save for work and other essentials, there's no going out for us.

The great thing was I had such a great family that I didn't mind the solitary life with them. I didn't yearn for our usual mall gimiks, or out of town trips -- as long as we're all together (eating, doing chores, praying the rosary, having movie nights, etc), I'm happy.

Yun lang the Yub didn't agree. He REALLY wanted to go out and fast. BWA HA HA HA HA! So di siya masaya sakin ganern??? Che!

Kidding! In his defense, he has been religiously working at home for 4 straight months now, only going out for grocery runs. So yeah, he felt like having a bit of a social life even for just a few hours.

That weekend, the boys were in Antipolo with my brother's family so I didn't have that guilty feeling of going out without them. With that, the Yub jumped at the opportunity and excitedly invited me out for a mini-date in Powerplant Mall.

To be honest, if given the choice I'd rather stay at home and chill. At the same time I wanted to be practical and just save money. The Yub though was very insistent and declared that he will treat me to ANYTHING. Minsan lang naman daw.

E DI SIGE! Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! Basta I already raised my points ah (nagpapilit... he he he he).

FINALLY after 4 months, we're out on a date!

MENDOKORO RAMENBA (BGC)

Once upon a time before the pandemic....

It was the Yub's birthday week and as much as we wanted to have loads of celebrations (like what we would do before), we didn't have a choice but to end it after a week because the Covid-19 situation was making everyone nervous.

For the last official celebration though, the Yub and I decided that since it's most likely that we'll not go out in a LOOOOONG time, we should go somewhere that is best eaten at the actual restaurant and not just via take out. So burgers or anything fast food is out of the question (Drats! It's going to be my treat pa naman). Ha ha ha ha!

With that, the obvious choice was RAMEN because soup and noodles were always best consumed as soon as it was served. Also, even if they have all of the Ramen kits in the market, it's still not the same as when you have the actual chefs cook it for you.

And of course if there was one place where we'll have Ramen it's going to be our favorite  -- MENDOKORO RAMENBA!!!

To think that our dinner there would be our last family outing in a loooooooooooooong time (like 4 months and counting).

WOHOO! We're out for some Ramen!!!!

PANDA EXPRESS PHILIPPINES

Once upon a time nearing the pandemic...

When we learned that PANDA EXPRESS was going to open in the Philippines, we got so excited because it's one of our favorite restaurants in the US. Even if we should be savoring burgers, steaks, pies, etc, there, we would always make room for this fast-food Chinese giant because not only were the prices affordable but the food was really good! It's a big plus too that it was everywhere! Ha ha ha ha ha!

After it opened, we were not able to go to PANDA EXPRESS in SM Megamall yet because we saw the torturous long lines. Normally we're fine with lining up, but these days, we're just not in the mood. Ha ha ha ha ha! Doesn't help too that there's that covid-19 looming about.

For one weekend however, we got word that classes were suspended that Monday (as schools were disinfecting their rooms). The Yub and I then thought of going to SM Mega to finally have a taste of PANDA EXPRESS here in the Philippines. And even if it somehow tasted different from its US counterpart, we still enjoyed our Sunday family outing to savor one of our favorites!!!!

(Little did we know that our gimik days were "numbered" with the upcoming virus!)

MANN HANN CAPITOL COMMONS

Once upon a time before the pandemic...

If you're close with my hub, you'd know that he's one of the most simplest man ever and it doesn't take much to make him happy. He's really not for grand celebrations and as long as we're together eating his favorite grub, he'll be super happy.

For his birthday this year, he really didn't want to make a fuss anymore because of that growing pandemic. Still, we thought that we cannot let his birthday pass without giving him even a tiny celebration and we promised to be ultra-careful.

When pushed he said he would like to have some (surprise, surprise) Chinese food. He remembered the last time we went out with Team Godoy how much we enjoyed the food in MANN HANN and asked if we could go there.

OF COURSE! His wish was our command!

We're extra happy too because we LOVED MANN HANN!

Yipee!!!!

INENG'S SPECIAL BBQ

One Saturday before the pandemic...

We met up with Team Mina in Paranaque-ness. While deciding where, the BGP suggested we go to SM Sucat. Normally, I was fine there but remembering how the BGP is a cancer survivor and that her health defense system is way, way, way down, I asked if we could go somewhere else. I said that it's better if we just go to a restaurant that's not located in a mall. With that, the BGP recommended INENG'S Special BBQ!!!!!

WOHOO!

Turns out, this was their surprise (advance) birthday treat for me!

WOAHHH!

TONGYANG SHABU SHABU EXPRESS

Once upon a time before the pandemic...

My little family are such fans of Shabu Shabu that we cannot stay away from it for a long time. Fried Chicken, Pizza, Burgers, etc etc are fine when we're out but there's something deeply comforting about slurping on boiling hot soup, devouring the chewy noodles, and crunchy vegetables, then dipping it all on my spicy and "umami" filled sauce. We just gotta have it at least once a month in our mundane lives!

One night while the Yub and I were doing groceries, we came upon TONGYANG SHABU SHABU EXPRESS. We have already been to their mothership TONGYANG buffet many years before but since we're watching our diets and our wallets, the "express version" would be perfect!

And we were right. TONGYANG SHABU SHABU EXPRESS was just what we needed.  I think we'll be here A HUNDRED TIMES more.

(That's what you think... ha ha ha ha-- Jaz from the future)

TITTOS LATIN BBQ AND BREW

Once upon a time before the pandemic....

It's been a while since I saw the dear Godoy's that's why when we needed to meet up for one night, we made it into a gimik. He he he he!

You see, I have finally decided to do some "adulting" and get myself insurance. I thought that when I depart for heaven (for heaven daw o!!!!) I don't want to burden my family with the cost. At the same time, I'd like to give the boys a little something to help them out.

Kidding. I just want to get my ginormous "noo" insured. Ha ha ha ha!

So with that, I met up with dear Lieza to make my payment and sign some documents. At the same time, she offered to treat me for dinner as my 40th pre-birthday celebration.

Yes. 40th!!! May reklamo????

Lieza suggested we try out TITTOS LATIN BBQ AND BREW and I was game because everytime we passed by Greenhills, that restaurant was always packed.

And eat there we did. It's great that I was finally able to try out this restaurant (that seems to be the new haven for "titas of Manila" he he he he). We enjoyed the food and I immediately made mental plans to return with my family.

(Not! -- Jaz from the future in ECQ)

Tee hee....

OF IBON ADARNA AND CHEAP EATS

Once upon a time before the pandemic....

Every year, the little guys' school would arrange a "Repertory" family day where they invite families to watch their kid-friendly shows.

The Yub and I used to go every year with the little guys making it a Saturday "gimik" for us. I love theatre that's why I appreciate that the boys' school promotes this activity for the family.

For 2019 though, our family wasn't able to watch that year's Repertory Show of "THE QUEST FOR THE IBON ADARNA" with their classmates because we were in Japan that weekend. There were other shows but the boys have other school schedules that did not match up for the whole family.

Finally we just decided to split and as per Andrei's request, I went with him. It would have been better if the Yub and Master Mati were with us but my big guy had a school interaction that day and opted to watch on another weekend ALONE (yep ayaw na niya kami kasama... ha ha ha).

As for the Yub, any chance that he could escape watching musical theatre, he'll do so. That's why he just waited for us. Okay lang. I don't want to hear his loud snoring in the middle of the show anyways.

In the end, the bunsoy and I enjoyed it all and were so glad to have seen it. I appreciate that besides the catchy songs and the flashy costumes, we were able to have a refresher of this Filipino classic story.

We don't know if we'll still be able to watch Repertory Musical theatre shows in the future (especially that the boys are growing up and the pandemic might prohibit the school for organizing it). That's why it's a good thing that the bunsoy and I had a great time watching "THE QUEST FOR THE IBON ADARNA" because we don't know when's the next magical theatre experience for us is going to be.

So for now, ENJOY!

UNO SEAFOOD PALACE

Once upon a time before the pandemic......

For my birthday week many, many eons ago (tee hee), my favorite foodie kumares/friends and I planned to have a weekend getogether because we haven't seen each other for so long.

Finally everyone was available for Saturday and when it came to deciding where to eat, it was suggested that we try out UNO SEAFOOD PLACE because they had this eat-all-you-can promo.

Hala! I also have a buffet dinner tonight pano yan??

Well!!! At least I could afford to eat "onti lang" because of the promo so I won't be so "hinayang" about it. I'm sure I could control myself from eating too much food.

Or so I thought. Tee hee.

GERRY'S GRILL (2020)

Once upon a time before the pandemic....

THE YAPPY BUNCH were with the BP Group for a staycation in Belmont Hotel and since we got out late, we thought of having our lunch there.

Last night's dinner was a disaster (haaay look na lang in the other blogs he he he he) that's why we thought that for lunch, we should go for a restaurant that we have already tried, tested, and enjoyed before. Of course, we also have to consider the price because we are ALL kuripots in the group. BWA HA HA HA HA HA!

In the end, the winner for us was GERRY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION 2020

It's MOTHER'S DAY. And unlike our previous celebrations, we will just cook and stay at home. Come to think of it, how we're going to celebrate this Mommy event is much like the person we're honoring -- simple yet special. She's not one to expect (or require) lavish celebrations. Like my Dad, my Mom is also the "We don't care where we go, we're happy as long as we're together!"

TEKA. Mantra namin yun ah!!!

Yep! I got it from my parents and I'm so thankful that for this day, we didn't feel "stuck" or "wawa" because we'll be staying at home for MOTHER'S DAY. In fact, we enjoyed the privacy, the practicality (tipid kaya), the food, and the company!!! Promise. I'd rather have THIS than celebrating in a 5-Star hotel with other people.

I think everything about that day was perfect.

Syempre, I have the PERFECT Mommy e!

Teka... Ako din pala! He he he he! Okay lang. I would rather honor the "bestest" lady in my life first.

And syempre, how will I do that?

WITH FOOD!

(Belated) HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!

Once upon a time before what's happening now, I CELEBRATED MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

Now...

I don't care if we have done this here many times before...

I don't care that it may make me go over my budget...

I don't care that I've made SEVERAL blogs about birthday celebrations here ordering the same food with the same people...

But we're having my birthday in my favorite KIMPURA and here's my post about it!!!

ITALIANNI'S RESORTS WORLD MANILA (2020)

Once upon a time before the pandemic....

THE YAPPY BUNCH met up with our Bawal Panget Group in ITALIANNI'S RESORTS WORLD MANILA. We were all excited for our Italian dinner because the whole gang was complete to celebrate dear Gem's birthday. He he he he he!

As for me, I'm also VERY excited to do some serious carbo loading. ITALIANNI'S has been one of my favorite Italian restaurants here in the Philippines and it's been a while since I've been there last. So yeah... I will definitely be there!

And my tummy and chika powers are super ready!!!!!!

THE YUB'S 2020 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS!

It's Yub's birthday once again and even if he's not too much on grand celebrations, we still want to honor him and thank his ugliness for all the love and hard work that he has given us (I'm a bully I know. Ha ha ha ha ha!)

Well, as much as we want to make out-of-this world gimiks for his birthday, we didn't because of the following reasons:

a) There was an incoming pandemic.
b) He wanted everything simple.
c) He didn't plan anything for my birthday naman e so why should I plan anything for him??? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Ignore the last one. Matindi ang hugot ng senior moments ko non! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Anyway, whatever the actual and pure reason, we did what we can to thank the big Chinese panget on his birthday. And based on his big smiles and thank yous, he's happy.

Syempre that made us all happy na din!

(Belated) Happy Birthday Yub!!! We love youuuuuuuus panget!!!!!!

MY 45TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

When I was younger, I thought that 45 is somebody very old, knowledgeable about life, ladylike, well-behaved, and goodness would just flow through her veins.

Looking at the mirror I'm thinking... NAAAAAH. He he he!

Anyone who's close to me would assure you that I'm nowhere those traits above: I am still figuring out this thing called "life," I am still wacky and kenkoy, my voice is still very loud and I laugh with a guffaw, I could still be very mean, AND, I look 30.

I'm sure the last one made you gag. Ha ha ha ha ha!

What I did discover about growing old is that I got more emotional and became a crybaby. Yeah! Not just by watching movies ah (oh I love crying at movies) but my stone heart has finally melted (to think I'm the girl who was dedma with all the palanca letters from school retreats). I finally got why my Lolos and Lolas would suddenly burst out laughing when we're together. At this age I finally understood how unimportant material things are and that what matters most are the people around you.

In fact, I didn't expect gifts! When friends asked me what I liked, I would always say "Just promise you'll always be there for me" is my usual reply. (Of course Yub and the family are not included since I rely on them to buy new clothes or techie stuff. I don't usually have the budget to do so. #kuripot. Ha ha ha ha ha!).

Sharing with you my birthday celebrations this year when I turned 45! I know I say this always but, yep, it's still the best one yet. You may find my celebrations boring but I'm the type who values what I have now rather than reminiscing the days before or aspiring for what I will get in the future. Of course, like I always say (again), my birthday celebrations would be ultimo perfecto if my Daddyowzers was with us, but I guess celebrating with our loved ones and receiving blessings (that he initiated) is the next best thing.

So yay! Here's to me!! I'm 45 and super alive!

:P

OOPS.. Sorry! Typo! I'm only 35 pala. He he he he!

OF BASKETBALL AND CHILI'S!!!

Once upon a time before the pandemic...

The Chinese Panget loved playing basketball (he used to be in their varsity team in high school and college) and would play if time permitted. He cannot do so as much as he wanted now because of work and also, because medyo tanders na sya and his friends, it's difficult to find playmates (ha ha ha ha).

That's why when his Rotary Club (Makati group) invited him to join their team, the Yub gave an immediate yes. He missed the competition and the exercise. At least he won't be pressured too much because the other players will be in same age group. He he he he!

So for one Saturday, THE YAPPY BUNCH joined the Yub's first game to give our noisy support. Afterwards he said we'll have dinner and make a real family night of it.

Yun lang he said that what we eat depends on if he wins or not.

Kekekweng kweeeeng!!!!

It's basketball time!!!!!

BELMONT STAYCATION (2020)

One upon a time before the pandemic....

It's the month of February and that meant Team Navarro will treat the Bawal Panget Group with a staycation in BELMONT HOTEL!! And yep, even if we've been doing so for a number of years now, WE'RE STILL EXCITED!

Because why wouldn't we?

We'll be having a getaway with our family...
We'll be meeting up with long time friends...
We'll be eating at our favorite restaurants...
Our staycation is courtesy of Team Navarro...

And best of all...

We'll be celebrating the birthday of a special and generous lady!!!

So yeah, even if we've been doing this every year, we're still VERY excited because we have new experiences, make more special memories, and we'll have a bonding weekend with the family!

Let the fun begin!!!

ALBA (CAPITOL COMMONS)

Once upon a time, before the pandemic....

It's the super pamatay belated birthday of my dear Mareng Gail and as tradition permits, I will be treating her to her restaurant of choice.

DRATS... este... MAGALING! MAGALING! He he he he he!

Her choice for the night was ALBA in CAPITOL COMMONS because she was craving for some good ol' Spanish food. I have eaten with the family in ALBA many times before but I haven't tried out their dinner buffet (P933.00 per pax).

I guess there's always a "tindig-balahibo" first time for everyone and I'm glad that I'm going to do it with a friend.

Wait. No pun intended and suggested AT ALL there. Ewwy. Kadire.

:P

We're in ALBA!!!!!!!!!
