UKOKKEI RAMEN RON

I have long been haunted by the horrors of UKOKKEI RAMEN RON not because they have vampires, ghosts, werewolves, (Twihards??) lurking around but the restaurant is synonymous to GREAT FOOD and BAD SERVICE.

As a food blogger stalker, I have read many reviews how diners were helpless at the mercy of UKOKKEI'S famed "Ramen Nazi" and the restaurant's snooty wait staff. But, if you want to get a taste of the best Ramen in the Metro, then you should suck it up and face all of them like a man (or hungry woman).

Since I have this habit of walking out of a restaurant when service in the restaurant is lamer than Ursula in "Mad About You", I prepared myself by lowering down my patience level and just focus on their Ramen.

LO AND BEHOLD! I was pleasantly surprised that not everything in the urban legend was true. The waitresses were very nice and accommodating especially to little Foodie Mati. And, we were able to take a lot of pictures to our hearts content! I was even able to accomplish something that I thought was never possible... You will see it at the end of this silly little food blog.

AND what about the food? Words (orally, mentally, emotionally, TOTALLY) cannot really express how scrumptious their Ramen, especially their Tan Tan Mien, is. Before, I cannot comprehend how foodies would sacrifice their beliefs just to get a bowl of their famed noodles... Now I fully understand why.

And I want MORE.

UKOKKEI RAMEN RON

Finally, THE MATI steps in at UKOKKEI RAMEN RON!

The waitresses took our orders and Mati confidently said he will have UKOKKEI RAMEN RON's Ukokkei Shoyu (Soy Based) Ramen (P300.00).

Don't let this picture fool you. The noodles were just all clumped together because when Mati took a forkful of his UKOKKEI RAMEN, everything just sprouted up from nowhere!

I asked him if he could finish it all since I planned to take half of it home for Andrei. He insisted that yes he CAN finish everything and to stop bothering him. Ha ha ha ha!

If his hair seem unkempt to you, this was because for Sunday night, we were deciding if we should get him a hair cut or go straight to UKOKKEI RAMEN RON.

We made him choose and obviously, the more important matter for us won. Ha ha ha ha ha!

Remember what I told you about UKOKKEI RAMEN RON'S noodles magically sprouting everywhere once you have touched it?

That is one full bowl of noodles!!!

As for me, the reason for my eagerness to surrender to the Ramen Nazi's clasps was for this bowl sent down from paradise...

The very popular and sought after UKOKKEI RAMEN RON's TAN TAN MIEN! This creamy, oily, heaven in a bowl is one of the most sought after orders in the restaurant even if it is not included in their regular menu. Before, they would only offer 10 bowls of this per day and during dinner time only. Now, I think they prepare more of this for the deserving public but still during dinner time.

THAT is why we were here 7:00pm. When we got to UKOKKEI RAMEN RON, I even went down ahead of everybody just to ask the waitress if they still had available Tan Tan Mien for dedicated foodies like me. A bowl of this baby costs around P400 more or less. Believe me, that it is definitely worth it because UKOKKEI RAMEN RON'S Tan Tan Mien is the BEST in the country.

The BEST. I am sure you will agree once you have tried it.

It was served to me piping hot... just the way I like it!!!

Let's EAT!!

My ever party pooper of a hubby just ordered UKOKKEI RAMEN RON'S Chahan (Regular 260.00 Half 150.00) and their Gyoza. I had a small taste of what he was eating and it was all good.

But not as good and spectacular as my Tan Tan Mien though...

The proof is in the SOUP pudding!

Oh it was spicy! UKOKKEI RAMEN RON'S Tan Tan Mien had me all sweaty and sniffy while savoring it.

Go go go Mati!!! Mommy is so proud of you!

I was thankful that the waitresses attended to our every whim and even gave an extra bowl to my son as they  were not sure if he could finish it.

I read that sharing was prohibited in UKOKKEI RAMEN RON. Was that just an urban legend too??

No MATI!!! Those are not real noodles! He he he he!

Last December 21, 2012, EricJaz Foodies  went to UKOKKEI RAMEN RON again this time with our favorite foodies, the Campos!!!

Here I am with my little godchild Sasha!

Sasha, meet my creamy little friend... UKOKKEI RAMEN RON's TAN TAN MIEN!!!

I learned from my favorite blog Jin Loves To Eat that you should add some UKOKKEI RAMEN RON's Aji Tamago (P40.00) for more depth to your noodles!

... and it was love at first sight! Thanks Jin Loves to Eat!!

The runny yolk of the Aji Tamago blended well with the creamy soup adding more goo and yum. Just the way I liked it!

Even little Sasha was lost in Ramen Nation!

And in no time...

It was truly a great night at UKOKKEI RAMEN RON with the Campos!!!

Last May 12, 2013, I had some UKOKKEI RAMEN RON cravings again...

... and guess who tagged along?

We were only hungry diners of 3 so the waitress put us on a table good for 4. But then Andrei saw the special area where you have to take off your shoes and asked if we could sit there.  I love that the waitresses let us transfer even if the table was good for 6. They were so considerate!

UKOKKEI RAMEN RON's Aji Tamago eggs...

... which was dropped ASAP on my Tan Tan Mien!

My party pooper of a hubby who was not a party pooper anymore as he ordered UKOKKEI RAMEN RON'S Shoyu Ramen since Andrei wanted to eat noodles but found my Tan Tan Mien so spicy!

Ain't that so considerate of my husband?

Of course, all veggies on the side!

... and guess who got his veggies?

Yup! The beauty of UKOKKEI RAMEN RON's ultra delicious noodles is that you could add whatever toppings you want and it will still taste SHPEKTAKYULAR!!!

Yup! Same old al dente noodles in the same old rich miso spicy broth!!!

DEEELICIOUS!!!

There's my Tamago Egg!

... very finicky eater Andrei loved UKOKKEI RAMEN RON too!

Such a happy sight for me!

Let's EAT again!

SLUUURRRRP!!!

Our uber great meal put me in such a good mood that I was confident to call one of their waitresses and asked if I could give my compliments to the chef. And, if it was okay, to have a picture with him as well. The lady said it depends if Chef will be up for it and went to the kitchen.

Later on she said Chef agreed to have a pic after he finished arranging some of the noodles ordered. A few minutes passed by, he shyly stepped out of the kitchen and that was my cue for the picture!  I told him that his noodles were just spectacular and I was a fan of his "work". He responded with a meek "thank you" and was game for a lot of pictures!!!

Who would have thought that the supposed "Ramen Nazi" could be very humble, shy, and... very accomodating?

I am happy to declare that in all the times where EricJaz Foodies ate at UKOKKEI RAMEN RON, we extremely enjoyed everything... from the food... the service... and yes, even the short time with the supposedly "Ramen Nazi".  I heard a rumor though that the reason why the restaurant turned some of its snobbiness around was after it got closed down some months back.

Whatever is the cause or justification of it all, I love the dedication that UKOKKEI RAMEN RON exert into its Noodles (especially with my favorite, the Tan Tan Mien!). You would really feel that the Ramen served here was highly respected by its wait staff and by the Ramen Nazi.

Of course, Good Food will not ever justify Bad Service.

But with UKOKKEI RAMEN RON it is a relief that they have come to their senses and has now bashed that  urban legend.

Wohoo! Ramen for all!

Let's EAT!

  1. This is my daughter's ultimate favorite ramen shop, she eats 1.5 servings of the Shoyu ramen. Next time you eat there, order your noodles Katamen so they are al dente and won't get soggy.

    1. Hiya Berylle!!! Yes I was so happy afterwards! To think he has a reputation of being a "Ramen Nazi" since he could be very strict in his restaurant (before they said, you cannot share, you cannot take home, you cannot take pictures, and kids should be at their utmost best behaviour). I guess he is just that dedicated to his noodles!!! Yes! Please the try the Tan Tan Mien! They have the best one believe me! YUM!
